Seeing Stars on the Azuero Peninsula
Michael Douglas and wife Catherine Zeta-Jones were recently spotted looking hale and healthy in Panama, as they frolicked with their children Dylan and Carys on Playa Venao, near Pedasí on the Azuero peninsula.
Mr Douglas showed no signs of his recent battle with throat cancer, taking in the sun at one of Panama’s most popular surfing beaches. There is doubtless no better place to relax and refresh than on one of the myriad sandy beaches that fringe the peninsula’s coastline, and few towns as authentically charming as those of the Los Santos province, where Pedasí is situated.
Celebrity spottings in the area are hardly new; for years the area has attracted many high-profile vacationers, and more than a few have purchased land in and around the Pedasí district. Known for its quaint colonial architecture and unique culture, Pedasí has become something of an icon in its own right in the world of vacation destinations. It is also one of those rare combinations of affordable, ocean-front living and modern infrastructure set in the heart of the tropical band.
“There’s no other place quite like it,” says Daniel Rudasevski of Andromeda Ocean Estates, a luxury beachfront residential community on the outskirts of the town of Pedasí. “There are many places that have some of the elements, but very few that have it all in one package. Of those, even fewer are as accessible and welcoming as Panama.”
It is these qualities that have attracted the likes of Brad Pitt, Sean Connery and Tobey MacGuire to the Pedasí region, and celebrity purchasers are rumoured to include Mel Gibson, Michael Jordan, Bruce Willis and Tommy Lee Jones. But it’s not just the Hollywood glitterati who are finding appeal there; investors see the area’s enormous potential, while retirees are lured by the promise of tranquility, warmth and beauty at a reasonable price. Many families are also buying second homes in and around Pedasí, made all the more affordable by the option to rent the properties out when not in use.
“Many of our clients want to spend their vacation time here, and reap returns on their investment while they’re away,” agrees Mr. Rudasevski. “We take care of all those details – you don’t have to be a star to get star treatment at Andromeda Ocean Estates.”
